Why Re-plaster older properties after Flood damage?
Many homeowners affected by the recent torrential rain and flash flooding are facing the prospect of extensive - and potentially expensive - repairs to their homes. Many properties in the worst affected areas will need some re plastering undertaken during the reinstatement.
Gypsum based plasters and plasterboards that are sensitive to water, moisture ingress and salting are considered unsuitable for use in such conditions.
Tarmac CMS Pozament however produce a range of Cement based Lightweight Plasters that are well suited for this application. An established product, Limelite Renovating Plaster has been used for over thirty years to control dampness passing through walls of older properties following the insertion of a new Damp Proof Course. It allows substrates to breath and dry out naturally while simultaneously providing an effective barrier against salt transfer. By adding thermal qualities to the building it reduces the risk of condensation. It minimise efflorescence, prevents rusting of metal lathing, conduits and angle beads. It also controls pattern staining, mould growth and its quick drying properties permits early decoration. When skimmed with Tarmac High Impact Finishing Plaster it leaves a grade D high impact finish.
Available as a dry-bagged material, Limelite Renovating Plaster includes lime in its composition and carries the BBA certificate. It is available through a nationwide network of approved builders' merchants. To request a Limelite plasters product brochure, please call Tarmac's brochure request line on 08456 044 114, quoting code PR013 or go to our Brochure Request webpage.
Please Note: The re-plastering of walls following flood damage should only be carried out by specialist contractors who will check that walls have dried out sufficiently, that there is no crack movement, structural damage and that the salt content in walls is at an acceptable level.
